I still remember walking into the local FuncoLand (sort of like an old-school GameStop) to sell my NES games to get some cash for the new SNES. Looking back on it I regret it now… I’d certainly love to still have all my old stuff. But at the time, it was the only way I could afford the upgrade, so I went for it.
Playing Super Mario World for the first time was amazing. It was like Super Mario Bros 3 but on steroids – the game looked way better, played way better, and sounded way better. Putting games on a 16-bit system was like a whole new world, and the SNES certainly felt “Super” in every way.
Overall the games were a bit less difficult than what I played on the NES, but they were still very challenging. Some of my all-time favorite games were released on the SNES: Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 3 (VI), DKC 1-2, Mega Man X, Super Metroid, Actraiser, Super Mario World, SMRPG, The Lost Vikings, Mario Kart, and on and on.
I’m so glad I got back into gaming as an adult, so I can relive a lot of those memories by not just playing them by myself, but with my son as well. It’s cool to see him want to play old school Mario games because of modern games like Mario Maker, and then even cooler to see him beat a tough level after struggling just as mightily as I used to.
I hope you enjoy this MSU pack as much as I had fun making it, and hopefully it lets you relive some of those old memories as well!
